The Double Portion:Part Four

We have seen the power of the double portion in both Job and Elisha! In each of these men there was a release of special blessing provided by God. Job was doubled from his suffering of loss. Elisha was doubled in spirit and went on to minister with greater power than Elijah. Now let us look at another example of the double portion as we find it in Isaiah 61.

Isaiah is one of those great prophets who not only prophesied to his own generation but also to the future coming and reign of Christ. Some of Chapter 61 of Isaiah is directly quoted by Jesus in Luke 4:18. There we find Jesus having just returned from his testing in the wilderness and now he is in the temple operating in the power of the Spirit reading from this very passage! Jesus quotes verse one and part of verse two to reveal where he is heading! This is what he has already accomplished but he is not through! His ministry and his death and resurrection are going to fulfill all the word of God! Isaiah 61 is ours in total!

Having said that, look at what Isaiah prophesies in verses 6 and 7. He says you will be ministers of God and you will have a double portion. Kind of sounds like Job doesn't it! He says you will possess a double portion in all your land and everlasting joy will be yours.

But let's back up for a moment to Elisha. When you read 2 Kings as it relates to Elisha's ministry, you could pretty much put his accomplishments in Isaiah and find a good fit! He raised a widow's son. He healed a leper. He provided food and deliverance for an entire city. He even judged an unrighteous king and queen and set a new course for a nation. Even after his death, his bones brought life to a man who had fallen in battle. This is the power of the double portion and we see it all over Isaiah 61! Freedom, good news, healing, the favor of the Lord, praise, righteousness, and a whole new way of living are just some of the things we find here-glory to God!!

This is what God wants to accomplish in your life! He wants to show himself strong on your behalf and reveal all his goodness and mercy to you! The double portion is your inheritance in Christ but how do you come to receive it? If God has worked all these wonderful things for us, when do we get to share in them and not just dream about them?

I will continue to share what God has revealed in his word about this and I trust you will be here with me to discover how your life is destined for the double portion.

Thank you for dropping by and if you have any prayer or personal needs you would like me to address, please feel free to drop me a line at praytheword@comcast.net and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Remember, today is a great day in the Kingdom of God because Jesus is Lord and God loves you!
